Life Together at Meadow Wood

We’re here! All six buildings and the common house have passed final inspection, and we have all moved in! After a slow start with the landscaping, we’re making real progress. The property is becoming a truly beautiful place to live. Despite the inevitable to-do lists and adjustments, we are delighted and amazed. After dreaming, planning and laboring for over five years, our vision is finally a reality.
The common house is an unfolding blessing. It was the scene of our first regular common meal (shown here) as well as various celebrations*, a monthly Taizé service, organized meals, potlucks, and other community events – large and small, planned and unplanned. One of our members has organized a monthly meal and get-together for local singles. The kid’s play room recently received an influx of really cool toys, and we’re finding new and exciting uses for the other rooms we’ve built. The library has proven to be a godsend for quiet, impromptu gatherings and prayer meetings.
We have also received several wonderful community-building gifts, including a greenhouse (not yet built, but hopefully done in time for the colder weather). We also have some new chairs for a casual outdoor gathering point, a major “digging area” for kids and a ping-pong table. The kid’s playhouse has been moved to its new location (literally on the pond, with a rope bridge to get there), and we’re trying to figure out how to best use the existing barn.
Two units are still available! Email us at info@bartcommunity.org, or call (360) 692 8064, for information.

* So far, we have celebrated Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, Christmas, Passover, Easter and several members’ birthdays.

UPCOMING COMMUNITY EVENTS:
We have been having regular meals and events at the common house, although we’re still working out the details, with plenty of good advice from other cohousing communities and, of course the national Cohousing web site. A calendar of other public events will be available as soon as possible. Call Barb at (360) 692 8064 for details on upcoming events.
