Only in Cohousing...
This part of the Bartimaeus web site used to be called “A Day in the Life,” featuring hypothetical descriptions of community life. However, now that we’re really moving in, there’s nothing hypothetical about it. So, this section will feature occasional stories and anecdotes of life here at Bartimaeus.
Have you seen my husband? (October 2006) – In cohousing, it’s very easy to socialize with your neighbors. Those of us who are outgoing and talkative often find ourselves in conversations that end up in the common house, on a porch or in a nearby kitchen. This can occasionally make it difficult to find a spouse. Nancy and Walter had plans for the evening, after an afternoon of working on the property. Walter had been last seen at the common house – or was it the Coe’s front porch? Nancy strolled around the property, but no one seemed to know where Walter had gone. Finally, she returned to their home and dialed his mobile number. “Where are you, honey?” she asked. “I’m upstairs, getting ready,” came the reply.
